Confession: I watch American Idol. Every year, I start with watching the initial tryouts out of amusement, then I get sucked into Hollywood week for the drama, and then I'm hooked. Last year, I actually cared who won (as David Cook was clearly superior to that Archuleta wuss). This year, not so much. I'm just watching out of boredom at this point. But, man, am I sick of this Adam Lambert dousche. In response to everyone who likes him, lets get one thing straight: Yes, he is a very talented singer. He has impressive range. But what I think people aren't really recognizing is that having a good voice, like platinum record good, is just as much about tone as it is about range. Frank Sinatra had a legendarily bad vocal range, yet is considered one of the great singers in history. Adam Lambert is pretty much the opposite. He has great range, but no tone. Danny Gokey has tone. Maybe even too much so. Adam Lambert will be great in some show on broadway. But he isn't going to be making hit records (and if he does, I'll just go back and delete that sentence from this post, because I'm like that). If Adam Lambert was a guitarist, he would be like some super metal dude that can tap faster than you can believe, and is super gifted in a technical kind of way, but who wants to buy a record of that? Jimi Hendrix didn't display as much technical skill as most super metal dudes, but I don't think there are many people that are going to take the guitarist of Slayer over Jimi Hendrix in a "Who is the better guitarist" debate [I don't intend on getting distracted in this post by discussing who the greatest guitarist of all time is, so all of you imaginary readers that I am talking to, don't bother...]. Adam Lambert has tons of technical talent, but no tone. All of his performances sound like musicals. Which is fine. But the point of American Idol is to produce a recording artist. And Adam Lambert is pure broadway.
PS: He looks like he is hiding acne under all of that makeup, and has terrible hair and clothing. And the picture above is a perfect example of why I hate him.

I was just about to ask how you know so much about singing, Tommy, but then I remembered you were in a band at RISD. I'm sorry I can't remember what it was called, but I do remember you guys had some jaunty tunes.
